Tree Safety Audit for Government Estate
The Challenge
A major Isle of Man government department needed to demonstrate a robust and defensible approach to managing tree risk across a large estate comprising parks, highways, schools, and public buildings. No formalised tree management strategy existed, and reactive management was proving costly and inconsistent.
Our Approach
We designed and implemented a zone-based assessment system, categorising all managed land by occupancy levels and target use. Every tree within high-priority zones received a detailed inspection using Visual Tree Assessment methodology. A bespoke tree safety management policy was drafted, establishing inspection cycles, recording systems, and escalation procedures aligned with industry best practice.
The Outcome
The department now operates a fully documented tree safety management strategy with clear inspection schedules. Urgent works identified during the audit were prioritised and completed, and the ongoing programme has reduced reactive callouts by over 40%.
